Aging Story

Aging is a natural occurrence that begins at the start of life.  When you really look at aging, it is a beautiful evolution of growing, learning, and loving.  The more we age the better we become, the mysteries of life become clearer, we look back over our lives and learn from our mistakes and build upon our triumphs. The pitfalls of life become less as we grow and mature into this wonderfully created human being, as so eloquently stated in Psalm 139:14 – I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works.  Reading that scripture years ago left a lasting impression. I gained a new perspective on my physical self, recognizing it as a vessel created by the ultimate creator.  Instantly, I began to love myself and my imperfections.  What may look like flaws to you, are viewed as a masterpiece to me. All I had to do was BELIEVE.

If life is really good and we know we only have a few short years to live (3 scores and 10), why don’t we embrace it, seek to understand it better, and just live?  Live like there is no tomorrow, love like our life depends on it. Instead, we go around seeking the fountain of youth.  We spend approximately a billion dollars a year, to look and feel young, yet we still age.  Our bodies shrivel, our face wrinkles, our hair turns gray, we get sick, and we see our loved ones die.  We’ve been brainwashed, bamboozled, and hoodwinked by the beauty, supplements, and plastic surgery industry to believe that their way is the right way.  I’m not knocking these strategies you must do what’s best for you, but honestly speaking, I believe the secret to aging gracefully is embracing who you are, flaws and all.  The person God created, because he makes no mistakes, you are exactly who you are supposed to be. You were born to the parents he had already picked out; you were born in the demographic area you were supposed to live in and you were given the family DNA that you were supposed to have.  So, to me the secret to aging is living, accepting who you are through all stages of life, experiencing life’s ups and downs, forgiving yourself, forgiving others, and most importantly loving yourself and others.  Loving yourself, your family, your neighbors, and all the people who cross your path being in the present, and giving others your undivided attention, because one day everything will come to an end.
